Peninsula Park에 모여서 함께 꿈을 꾸었다. 언덕 위에 작은 천문대. 천체 망원경이 있는 곳. 우주를 관찰하고, 별의 움직임을 보는 곳. 꿈이 현실이 되는 장소. 꿈이 현실로 이루어질 때, 현실을 살아가다가 잠시 꿈을 꿀 때. 꿈과 현실의 경계가 되는 장소 Peninsula Park. 시간이라는 강물의 수원지. 시간이 시작되는 곳, 음악은 시간과 반도를 둘러 싼 강과 함께 흘러간다. 우리에게 다시 돌아오지 않을 순간들이 흘러간다. 서로가 서로에게 의지를 한다. 함께 꾸는 꿈에 대하여, 함께 하는 것에 대하여. 우리의 시간이 시작되고, 이야기가 되고, 꿈이 되어 먼 바다로 흘러가는 것에 대하여.

| 이번 EP <사랑=생존>은 두 명의 싱어송라이터와 함께 만들어 좀 더 특별했다. 대만의 카오슝 출신인 Fang Wu (吳汶芳)는 역시 대만 카오슝 출신인 Shallow Levée (淺堤) 덕분에 알게 된 뮤지션인데, 나는 팡우의 인스타그램을 팔로우하면서 그녀의 활동량과 다재다능함에 정말 놀랐다. 팡우는 스케이트보드, 서핑, 프리 다이빙, 요가 등등의 스포츠 활동을 즐기면서 동시에 아시아 곳곳을 누비며 공연을 하고 있었다. 그런 팡우의 모습을 보면서 ‘명상’이라는 곡이 만들어졌다. 팡우에게 데모를 보내주면서 명상에 관한 곡이라고 설명하자 팡우는 자신도 명상을 하고 있다면서, 대만어로 아름다운 가사를 만들어 보내줬다. 심지어 내 메일을 받았을 때 그녀는 외국에서 공연 중이였는데도 노트북으로 작업해 보내주었다. 이번에 함께 작업 한 또 다른 뮤지션 정지아는 작년에 알게 되어 친해진 뮤지션인데 지아는 2014년부터 혼자 음악을 만들고 발표하면서 쌓인 노하우와 깨달음들이 많아 이야기가 잘 통했다. 굉장히 차분하고 쉬크하지만 놀러가면 이것저것 먹을 것을 챙겨주고, 막 뭔가를 나눠주려고 한다. 며칠전에도 그녀의 텃밭에서 고수를 잔뜩 얻어왔다. 아무튼 지아의 음악을 듣고 지아가 부르면 어울릴 것 같은 노래를 만들어보고 싶었고 그렇게 탄생한 노래가 J다.
이번 EP는 혼자서도 만들고, 다른 사람과도 만들 수 있어 즐거웠다. 그리고 최근 내 음악의 마스터링을 맡아주고 있는 뮤지션 고도현 덕분에 나의 믹스본이 좀 더 생동감 있어졌다. 앨범에 참여해 주신 정지아, Fang Wu, 고도현에게 다시 한번 감사의 인사를 전한다. 모든 것들이 마찬가지겠지만 혼자서 할 수 있는 일은 아무것도 없다. 내가 쓰는 이 글은 유통사에 넘겨지고 그곳에서 일하시는 분들의 손을 거쳐서 결국 사람들에게 닿게 된다. 실제로 만나지는 않지만 항상 수많은 사람들의 도움을 받고 있다. 그래서 매일 아침 저녁 명상을 할 때 내가 알고 있는 사람들과 모르는 사람들에게 감사함을 전한다. 그리고 그 사람들이 모두 행복하길 바란다. 가끔 지하철에 타서 모르는 사람들의 얼굴을 볼 때면, 이 사람들이 바로 내가 행복을 빌고 있는 그 사람들이구나…라는 생각이 든다. 이 사람들 덕분에 오늘도 내가 살아갈 수 있는 거구나…그런 생각이 든다. 서로 사랑하지 않으면 살아갈 수가 없다. 사랑이 우리를 존재할 수 있게 한다.

| 한국 재즈에 관심이 있는 음악팬이라면 스윙메이커스의 멤버들의 이름이 낯설지 않을 것이다. 그들은 모두 각기 자신들의 스타일과 자신들의 밴드를 갖고 있는 연주자들이다. 그럼에도 그들은 국내 재즈계의 독보적인 수자폰 주자 브라이언 신(그는 원래 트럼펫 주자였다)의 뜻 아래 함께 뭉쳤다. 그 뜻은 다름 아닌 재즈의 원조 뉴올리언스 재즈를 즐기자는 것이다. 이 음악은 단순히 뿌리의 음악이 아니다. 이처럼 소박하면서도 기품이 있으며 재즈 본연의 자유로움과 스윙을 느낄 수 있는 음악이 또 어디에 있다는 말인가. 스윙메이커스의 음악을 들으면 잔디밭에 편안히 앉아 바라보는 푸른 창공의 흰 구름의 모습이 자연스럽게 떠오른다. 그것은 100년 전의 사람들도 똑같이 느꼈을 영구불멸의 로망이다.

| 조종근의 첫 EP앨범 [더워지기 전에]
누군가에게 편안한 위로를 줄 수 있는 피아노를 들려드리고 싶었습니다. 앨범의 곡들은 모두 제가 느낀 솔직하고, 담백한 감정선의 흐름을 따라갑니다. 각자의 방식으로 함께 느껴주시면 좋겠습니다. 감사합니다.
1. 더워지기 전에 여름 문턱 해질녘. 약간 쌀쌀한 바람이 살랑살랑 맨마루에 누워있는 나를 훑고 지나갔다.
2. 소용에 닿다 처음 한강에서 지는 노을을 봤을 때 나는 힘들었던 시간들을 보상받은 기분이었다.
3. 봄 꿈 기분 좋은 햇살을 맞다가 나도 모르게 잠깐 낮잠에 들었다.
4. 오늘도 특별하고, 소중해 사랑하는 사람과 행복하다고 느낀 그 찰나의 순간은 매우 특별하고, 소중하다.
5. 우량목 나의 가족, 친구, 사랑하는 사람이 있어도 순간 외롭게 느껴지는 때가 있다.
