Do you also have numbers that entangle you, flashing in the sequence of life, always able to capture them first, like magpies landing on a windowsill, feeling they have stories to tell? For Tesla, 369 is the key to the universe, while for me, 369 is like a tunnel, sometimes narrow, sometimes wide, unsure of its destination and endpoint, but filled with wonders along the way. I watched Marko Rodin’s explanation of 369, learned about the magical decimal recurring number 142857, became fascinated with Ernst Steiner’s artwork, observed DNA, the images of Fuxi and Nuwa, and the Taiji patterns, all astonishingly similar in their spiraling rotations, and began to study the “I Ching” … When I compared these phenomena or viewpoints that transcend geography and time, I realized that simmering a pot of soup and having a relationship are essentially the same thing, popping a pimple on the nose and the eruption of a volcano in Ecuador are the same thing, uploading a new song to the internet and launching Voyager 1 are the same thing… Stripping away all superficiality and assumed value, things operate under an almost unified law. These three songs serve as a summary, responding to this mysterious tunnel.

사랑형


 

만져본 적 없고 볼 수 없던 것들을 향유하기 위해

몰래 품어온 다섯의 비밀을 겨우내 그럴듯하게 포장했습니다.

허상 안에 진심을 불어넣고 현실 위에 희망을 쌓아 올리며

사랑 비슷한 비밀들은 다섯 곡의 음악으로 세상으로 나오게 되었습니다.

 

나는 사랑형의 사람입니다.

시선과 마음을 오래 머무르게 하는 것들이 나에게는 별나게 많고 그들은 언제나 힘이 세고 무겁습니다.

감당이 어려울 것들에 주저없이 쉽게 마음을 내어주는 일이 이제는 대수롭지 않습니다.

다만 마음이 연하고 견고하지 못한 나는 내게로 성큼 넘어온 커다란 사랑을 잘 감당하는 법을 배워야 했습니다.

크게 다치지 않기 위해 잘 무너져야 하고 또 저항 없이 져야만 했습니다.

아프고 쓸리는 일에 지칠 법도 하지만 사랑이라 믿고 싶고 희망이라 정의하고 싶은 어떤 것들이 있기에 나는 살아갑니다.

얇은 마음 위에 집을 지어 살고 있는 내 안의 커다란 모든 것들을 ‘사랑형’에 녹여냈습니다.

아끼고 갈망하는 숱한 것들에도 슬픔과 절망이 엉켜있지만

그마저도 품어내기 위해 끝없는 평행선의 사랑을 노래하겠습니다. 지금처럼.

개들이 옆에서 뛰어다니면 그게 또 목자인 줄 알고 쫓아 가기도 하고요.
방향 감각도 없어 낭떠러지가 있어도 구분하지 못하기 때문에 반드시 목자가 필요하죠.

KACHISAN


 

カチサン [KACHISAN] 新しいスタートラインから打ち上げられた三銃士のセレナーデ。

 

全ては文字通り「スタート」から始まった。新しいミレニアムの到来とともに、多彩に揺れ動く大衆文化を自然に吸収し、それを音楽的な栄養の「始まり」として取り入れたメンバー各自の幼年時代が、カチサンというバンドの始まりとなった。アルバムのタイトルからもうかがえるように、この正規1集「KACHISAN」は、文字通りバンドの始まりを告げ、聴衆に向けての無邪気な最初の挨拶のような作品だ。

 

前述のとおり、カチサンの同い年の3人組、キム・ジンホ、チェ・ソンヨン、そしてハン・テインは、90年代後半から2000年代にかけてのバンド音楽やアニメ主題歌を通じて、音楽への興味と愛情を深めていったという。その時の記憶は、それぞれが異なるジャンルや分野で活動していた彼らの交点であり、やがて作業室を共有する友人として、カチサンというバンドで再び集まることができた決定的な動機となった。

 

そのため、これらの過去の活動を覚えている人々は、既存の活動とは異なる音楽に、「本当に同じ人たちなのか?」と思うかもしれない。このアルバムを通じて、カチサンはこれまで様々な現実的な理由で避けていたこと、つまり過去のどこかに置いてきた初心について歌っているのだ。もちろん、このような方向性が誰かには時代遅れに感じられるかもしれないが、逆にそれがロマンと呼べる理由ではないだろうか。まるで世に出て初めて目を開けたばかりの赤ん坊の泣き声のように、メンバーたちの新鮮な姿が見慣れなければ、それはむしろ創作者の意図と正確に一致する鑑賞をしているという意味だろう。

 

この過程で、カチサンは多くの大衆音楽でレトロな要素を取り入れる一方で、一般化された手法やありきたりなアプローチを避けるために、正面から向き合う方法を選択した。テーマはもちろん、作品の形式、サウンド、そして視覚的な要素に至るまで、アルバムのすべての要素は徹底的に2000年代を基準に設計された。索漠として厄介な現実を意に介さず、その時代のバンド音楽の質感を完全に反映しているだけでなく、シングル単位で急速に変化する音楽市場に逆行する形での正規アルバムデビューは、「ミュージシャンならば当然、正規アルバムを出すべきだろう!」という古風な固執から生まれた。

 

ちなみに、「カチサン」というバンド名は、バンドが最初に結成されたスタジオの住所から取られたという。2024年現在、一部のローカルシーンを除き、地域ベースの活動の伝統がほとんど途絶えてしまった中で、バンドの起源を称え、出身地を明確に打ち出すネーミングセンスは、かなりノスタルジックと言える。さらに、色褪せたアルバムカバーや、ざらざらとした質感のミュージックビデオに至るまで、その時代への愛情を露わにしており、音楽の内外を問わず、彼らが伝えたい真実のメッセージを容易に感じ取ることができるだろう。

 

そして、この「真実」こそが、カチサンの音楽を単なる「2000年代のリメイク版」と見なすことができない証拠であり、従来のレトロブームを評価の基準とすることができない最も本質的な理由である。彼らが語る「その時代」は、経験したことのない過去への根拠のない憧れではなく、既に30歳を過ぎた同世代の友人たちが身をもって経験した思い出に根ざし、息を吹き込まれているからだ。カチサンが結成されたきっかけ、そして彼らがカチサンとして伝えたいすべては、非常に個人的な動機から始まった。訳も無く高鳴る胸の鼓動を抑えきれずにどうしようもなかった幼い日の熱い感情、その「非常に個人的な記憶」から発火したカチサンの音楽は、結局のところ、氾濫するレトロ市場の中でも、誰にも真似できない「カチサンらしさ」を作り出している。

 

こうして、カチサンの音楽は愛に帰結する。全10トラックにわたり、力の限り「全ては愛だ」と叫ぶ彼らの音楽は、それが人であれ、物であれ、あるいは時間や記憶のような抽象的な対象であれ、結局のところ2023年の「僕」を存在させた全てのものへの心からの捧げ物であり、比類なきセレナーデである。クリシェの極みである「愛」というテーマが、カチサンには平凡に感じられない理由も同じだ。

 

もちろん、カチサンは決して過去に留まるわけではない。音楽を通じて過去を振り返る過程を旅に例えるならば、彼らはまさに長い旅の折り返し点を過ぎ、元気に家へ帰る準備をしているのだ。帰還によって完結するのが旅であるように、カチサンもいずれ音楽を止め、現実に戻って今を生きるだろう。しかし、旅先での幸せな記憶が、明日の朝の登校や通勤に耐えるための支えとなるように、メンバーそれぞれの数多くの「始まり」こそが、これからの歩みのための尽きることのない原動力になると信じて疑わない。カチサンという新しい名前で再びスタートラインに並んだ三銃士の躍動感あふれるスタートが、一際迷いなく、力強く見えるのも、これまでひたすら前を向き、輝き続ける彼らの視線があるからだろう。
