2021 윈디만보 신규 EP ‘Lily’

 

윈디만보가 2020년 1집 ‘Spring Spring’을 발표한 후에 대만, 홍콩, 일본, 한국 및 동남아 등 지역에서 많은 팬들의 관심을 받고 있다. 싱글 ‘너와 함께하고 싶어’는 지금까지 유튜브에서 거의 300만회 조회수를 기록했고, 2021년 상반기 열린 앨범 투어는 순시간 매진한 다음에 11월 발매된 레크드판 음반을 발표한 것을 빛낼 준비를 하고 있는 샛별밴드를 입증했다.

 

윈디만보가 1년만에 ‘Lily’라는 신규 EP를 제작하며 가볍고 로맨틱한 ‘Spring Spring’과 달리,수록곡들이 모두 ‘짝사랑’, ‘외로음’등의 분위기를 담아 노래를 제작하였다.
날씨가 추워지는 연말에 신작을 발표한 이유가 역시 추운 날씨에 쓸쓸한 마음을 가진 분들에게 조금이라도 외로해주고 함께 있어주고 싶은 마음이다.
짝사랑이 개인적인 일이라고 볼 수 있지만, 이 세상에 많은 사람들이 겪고 있거나 사랑을 가슴속에 남아 고백을 못할 때가 있을 거라고 믿는다. 윈디만보는 이런 쓸쓸한 마음을 노래로 만들어 스스로 치유하고 다른 사람도 치유해준다.

 

비주얼 아트의 작업이 지난 앨범과 같이 상상력 넘치는 기타 웨이샹이 직접 디자인을 하였다.
이번에 펠트 예술가 ‘안예당’와 손을 잡아 ‘우는 개구리 공주’를 만들어, 좋아하는 사람에게 컴퓨터로 사랑 메세지를 보냈는데 읽씹을 당해서 가슴이 찢어진 마음을 동화를 가득한 미술 디자인으로 3곡 수록곡의 주제를 정확하게 표현하였다.

 

금번에 직전 독립 작업과 달리, 올해 대만 금곡상에서 ‘최고 녹음 앨범상’을 받은 112F 스튜디오의 사운드 엔지니어 크리스와 함께 프로듀서로 작업한 것도 윈디만보에 새로운 경험이다.
경험이 많은 사운드 엔지니어과 같이 작업 시 기존 사고방식에 벗어나면서 귀와 마음을 열어, 새로운 아이디어를 흡수했다. 작곡 및 악기의 음색을 보여주면서 색다른 생각을 넣어, 그들의 음악을 더욱 풍부하고 세밀하게 표현할 수 있도록 한다.

 

릴리 영어 이름인 ‘Lily’의 꽃말은 고아, 순결이고 누구나 마음속에 늘 찾고 싶은 사람이나 희망처럼 완벽하다.
우리가 결국에는 결과를 정할 수 없지만, 결과보다 더 중요한 것이 과정일 수 도 있으니 이런 과정에서 윈디만보는 음악으로 우리의 귀와 삶에 스며들어 조용하고 부드러운 존재로서 함께 있어 준다.

Fleeting Wind / 작사 및 작곡: 장양
이번 EP 유일한 중국어 노래로, 장양이 보컬로써 나비효과 관련 이론을 사고했을 때
우리의 마음속에 있는 작은 생각들을 입으로 표현할 수 없으므로 추후에 간접적이고 큰 영향을 미칠 수도 모른다는 생각을 바탕으로 노래를 만들었다.
마침 짝사랑의 마음처럼 말을 못 하지만, 연모하는 마음이 생기면 우리의 행동, 다른 사람을 대하는 태도에도 간접적으로 영향을 미칠 것이고,
하나 하나가 점점 마음에 바람속에 일으켜 우리를 어디로 불 것인지, 혹은 더 큰 폭풍이 몰아칠 것인지를 예측하기 어렵다.

짝사랑할 때 눈에 보이는 것,생각하는 것이 모두 그 사람이 완벽한 모습이다.
두 사람이 함께하지 못하면 만날 때 그 사소한 단점이 보이지 않을 것이고, 서로 익숙하는데 다투 등을 겪지 않을 것이다.
함께 하지 못해서 서로에게 기억할 일조차 없다는 것이 사람을 슬프고 고통스럽게 만든다.
사랑이라는 것은 아프겠지만 즐거운 일이다.

우리에게 그럴 때가 있겠지? 삶에 지치고 집에 들어가면 혼자일 때.
혼자서 밥을 먹고, 혼자 살고, 혼자서 소파에 주저앉아 드라마나 영화를 보고, 옆에 아무도 없이 혼자서 잠드는 것.
이 곡이 잠을 안 오는 수많은 밤의 우리의 속말이고 스스로 작은 위로로, 모두에게 공유하며 좋은 꿈을 꾸길 바란다는 의미 있다.

윈디만보는 타이베이에서 온 더블보컬 밴드이고 팝을 바탕으로 인디팝, 신스팝 등을 더불어 사춘기 막바지의 속마음을 노래를 하며

After releasing the first studio album “Spring Spring,” Wendy Wander has raised visibility throughout Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and South East Asia. Title single “I Want to Be with You” has reached 300 millions views on Youtube, as well as instant sold-out of tour tickets and vinyl records, propelling the band as a breakout star.

 

The latest EP “Lily,” distinguishing from the delightful romantic atmosphere of “Spring Spring,” Wendy Wander brings flavor on unrequited love and aloneness in turn-to-chill year end, offering warm company to those who feel lonely in the winter time. Three singles tackle the universal feelings of hidden crush, unspeakable love, and sentiments that lingered but lost in words. Wendy Wander reflects those personal moments of you and me, writing bitter-and-sour into therapeutic remedy.

 

Visual design is helmed by guitarist Wei Xiang just like the last album. Imaginative as he is, this time Wendy Wander collaborates with wool artist Anye Tang to create a weepy frog princess, who sends a love message but is left read and heartbroken. Packing up with an adult fairy tale, the visual theme concatenates three singles with modern love whispers.

 

Instead of a one-man-band effort from “Spring Spring,” Wendy Wander teams up with Golden Melody Award winner Chris Chen, from 112F Studio, to co-produce “Lily.” The brand new experience of producing “Lily” has prompted Wendy Wander to think out of the box and be stimulated with inspiration and liberty. Infusing different ideas deliberates arrangement and tone design, polishing both Wendy Wander’s delicacy and enrichment.

 

Lily represents elegance and purity, just like everyone’s projection in their longing pursuit: innocent, dreamy, and unreachable. Maybe at the end of the day, destiny is far from our reach, whereas the process of search is just as spotless as lily. Wendy Wander’s tenderness hopes to soften those ever-bearing minds, gently patting daily and private life.

1. Fleeting Wind. lyrics/compose: Yang
The only Chinese song in the EP comes from lead vocalist Yang’s thoughts on Butterfly Effects theory: the tiniest, unspoken sentiment could indirectly bring about a giant influence on mind. Once you feel romantically with someone, the feeling has a potential power to dominate your behavior and attitude towards others, like a wind that could bring us to any direction. The wind is fleeting, yet it can be an unpredictable storm coming on the way.

 

2. For Lily. lyrics/compose: Zhen Ni
When falling in love, everything you see and everywhere you go are covered by a perfect shadow. You are projected on his or her dreamy image and love blinded by the fact that you two are never together. Without suffering from struggle and quarrel while without feeling missed and touched, one-side love, or simply loving, is such aching happiness.

 

3. Lullaby. lyrics/compose: Zhen Ni
We all know what it’s like to be in after-day fatigue and coming home alone. Times that eating alone, watching Netflix alone, sleeping alone, and waking up alone the next morning. It is dedicated to those fragile souls trying to keep themselves together in daily life, and gives comfort after home when no one else is doing so.

Wendy Wander, a Taipei band features duo lead vocalists. Foundation of pop music and blending with indie pop, synth pop and rock, they are telling story of ending adolescence and sophisticated inner voices, reaching out to those who resonate. 2020’s first album “Spring Spring” is well recognized and receipted; the latest EP “Lily” is expecting in 2021 end.
