3년 만에 돌아온 초록불꽃소년단의 3집 “GREENROOF”

10년이 훌쩍 넘는 세월 동안 펑크의 형식으로 청춘의 송가를 노래해온 초록불꽃소년단의 진심을 다한 외침은 오늘도 계속된다.

지붕 위에 선 우리는 땅을 보며 추락할 것인가, 아니면 하늘을 보며 도약할 것인가. 청춘의 애증스러움을 담아낸 “GREENROOF”는 듣는 이에게 살아감에 대한 고통을 이어나갈지, 이겨나갈지에 대한 그들만의 희극적이자 비극적인 이야기를 해준다.

시대회귀

굴욕적인 창피한 순간, 수습이 불가능할 정도로 저질러버린 사고, 다시 주워 담을 수 없는 말실수 등 순간의 잘못된 선택으로 괴롭고 곤란할 때, 시간을 되돌리고 싶었던 적이 있으셨나요?

저는 그럴 때 ‘단순히 시간을 넘어 예전의 옛날 시대로 돌아가버린다면?’ 하고 상상하곤 합니다.

그런 좌충우돌한 공상들 속에서 결국 다시 문제가 많은 현재로 돌아오게 되는 것은 조금은 씁쓸하지만 결국엔 주변 이들의 도움으로 시간을 굳이 되돌리지 않아도 해결이 되고 혹은 가끔 시간이 이를 도와주는 것 같습니다.

만약 온몸이 짓눌리는 듯한 무거운 문제에 괴로우시다면 잠시 동안은 이 참을 수 없는 가벼운 공상을 떠나보는 것은 어떨까요?

Beau Red

Meule could be the meeting between Kraftwerk and King Gizzard, the synthesis of garage and electronic music, of sequenced calculation and human imperfection.

The guitar and drums face a modular synths wall and unite in the trance, sometimes wild, sometimes soft, that characterizes the band’s music.

After a first eponymous album, the three Tourangeaux signed “Beau Red”, the band’s second record on Figure Libres Records and Luik Music.

Out of radio formats, nothing passes under the 7mn bar, because it is in long tracks that the freedom of the band expresses itself, the one which gives the same importance to the ethereal intros as to the wild and inveterate krautrock.

From synthetic elucubrations where drums lead to the wild denouement of a too long journey aboard the train of “No couchettes”, to the shoegaze tribulations of a rocker lost in his excesses in “Vacuum” to finish with “Beau Red”, a tale of the end of mankind, where giants finish devouring what humanity will have left behind.

This record, “Beau Red” reminds us of the transcendental experience of Meule’s live shows, to which are added new facets of the band that inject to their aesthetic a collective and assumed rage.

From the Inouïs du Printemps de Bourges to the Trans Musicales festival, including a KEXP live session, 2022 will remain a great year for the band. 2023 looks promising with a new EP and a nice tour to accompany this release.

1인 창작은 방구석 리미터와의 싸움이다. 옆집에 목소리가 새어나가지 않게 이불을 뒤집어쓰고 녹음한다. 큰 스피커에서 울려 퍼질 음악을 상상하며 이어폰 속 작은 볼륨에 귀를 기울인다. 창작 과정에 걸린 자체 리미터는 생각에도 걸린다. 이내 마음에도 리미터가 걸려 피어나지 못한 상상이 데모 폴더로 숨어 들어간다.

창작에 리미터가 걸린 다섯 명의 음악인을 2025년 한국대중음악상 선정 올해의 신인 네 팀이 도왔다. 마스터링 체인에 걸린 리미터 천장까지 게인을 끌어 올리듯 주혜린, 삼산, 최미루, 산만한시선은 김규린, 햇빛사냥과 Nivernova, 최우석, 심재욱의 시간에 무언가를 더했다. 그들이 한계를 발견할 수 있도록, 게인이 천장과 마주할 때 부서지고 찢어지다 이내 한계를 넘을 수 있도록 부추겼다. 이 앨범이 진정 [Unlimited Edition]인 이유다.

‘limit’의 어원 ‘limen’은 경계이자 입구라는 뜻이다. limen과 마주해 그 밑으로 쭉 들어갈 때 비로소 ‘숭고한’, ‘sub-lime’ 상태를 경험할 수 있다. 숭고는 거대한 산과 마주할 때 피어오르는 분위기다. 일단 그 크기에 놀라 말을 잃고, 이내 그 산을 오르고 싶다는 용기 하나만 준비한 채, 돌부리에 걸려 넘어지고, 정상에 이르러 새 사람으로 다시 태어난다. 올해의 신인이 등 떠밀어 다섯 사람이 산 정상에 이르자 또 다른 신인, 새로운 사람이 태어났다. 이 앨범은 우리가 방구석에 걸린 리미터를 뚫고 다시 태어난 기록이다.
