Beau Red
| Meule could be the meeting between Kraftwerk and King Gizzard, the synthesis of garage and electronic music, of sequenced calculation and human imperfection.
The guitar and drums face a modular synths wall and unite in the trance, sometimes wild, sometimes soft, that characterizes the band’s music.
After a first eponymous album, the three Tourangeaux signed “Beau Red”, the band’s second record on Figure Libres Records and Luik Music.
Out of radio formats, nothing passes under the 7mn bar, because it is in long tracks that the freedom of the band expresses itself, the one which gives the same importance to the ethereal intros as to the wild and inveterate krautrock.
From synthetic elucubrations where drums lead to the wild denouement of a too long journey aboard the train of “No couchettes”, to the shoegaze tribulations of a rocker lost in his excesses in “Vacuum” to finish with “Beau Red”, a tale of the end of mankind, where giants finish devouring what humanity will have left behind.
This record, “Beau Red” reminds us of the transcendental experience of Meule’s live shows, to which are added new facets of the band that inject to their aesthetic a collective and assumed rage. From the Inouïs du Printemps de Bourges to the Trans Musicales festival, including a KEXP live session, 2022 will remain a great year for the band. 2023 looks promising with a new EP and a nice tour to accompany this release. |
시스템 오작동
| “몰라..?” 몰라시스템 회의 시간에 가장 자주 들리는 말이다.
몰라시스템은 사실 아는 것이 많지 않다. 대신 감각에 충실하다. 멤버들이 살아오며 흘린 감정의 파편들을 모아, 하나의 사진첩 같은 첫 EP ‘시스템 오작동’을 완성했다. 기계의 오작동은 불완전함의 상징이다. 그러나 반복되는 오작동은 새로운 진화를 예고한다. 인간의 감정도 마찬가지다. 소화하기 힘든 감정은 우리에게 골치 아픈 ‘시스템 오작동’처럼 다가오지만, 그 연속 속에서 우리는 단단해지고 성장한다.
Track 1. GREENROOM<3 어색함으로 가득한 무대 뒤편 대기실. 초조한 기다림 속에서, 우린 알 수 없는 미래를 향해 나아간다.
Track 2. MESS 사람은 누구나 몇 번의 좌절을 겪는다. 맹독버섯 수프를 삼켰을 때, 그리고 믿었던 관계가 무너져 내리는 것처럼 느껴질 때.
끝없는 갈등 속에서 우리는, 세상이 뒤엉켜 버린 건지 아니면 내가 무너져 가는 건지 혼란 속으로 빠져든다.
Track 3. L=1/2ρV²SCL 날아오르는 찰나, 중력과 설렘, 그리고 고독이 뒤섞여 멀미를 일으킨다.
Track 4. 비행공포 (Fear of Flying) 두려움 속에서 욕망은 깨어나고, 불안 속에서 해방은 자라난다. 삶의 균열을 마주하는 순간, 우리는 다시 ‘나’를 탐색한다.
Track 5. P.32 괴짜들은 정작 자신이 괴짜인 줄 모른다. 우린 이상하다 여겨지고 좀처럼 이해받지 못했지만, 그 덕분에 함께 모여 웃고, 상상할 수 있었다. 소외감은 어느새 동질감이라는 큰 힘으로 바뀌었다. 이제, 당신을 몰라시스템의 괴짜 세상으로 초대한다.
Track 6. 잔디 (don’t wash me off your jeans) 여름의 잔디는 생명력으로 가득하다. 바짓가랑이에 매달린 잔디처럼, 무심코 지나친 자리에도 사랑은 끈질기게 남아있다.

한국에서
| 악기 하나 없이 목소리부터 녹음한 채로 1년 정도를 보냈고
내가 원하는 진행과 소리, 분위기들이 분명히 있었기에 저를 포함한 여럿이 편곡을 잡아 완성을 해보아도 쉽게 만족이 되지 않아 다시 원점으로 돌아오기 일수였어요.
그렇게 시간이 지나 지금으로부터 1달 전 쯤 난데없이 태현이에게 카톡으로 파일을 띡 보냈고 그 파일은 내가 원했던 좋은 음악이 되어 돌아왔어요.
한 달 간의 작업이 진행되며 가진 장비들은 넣어두고 처음 구매했던 싸구려 인터페이스와 3만원짜리 마이크를 꺼내며 오랜만에 만난 친구와 어릴 때처럼 음악을 만들었어요.
한국에 태어나 30년 가까이 살아가다보니 이 음악을 만든 과정, 이 음악이 담은 의미처럼 가까운 과거와 그 다음 가까운 과거 속 후회와 그리움 그 외의 온갖 것들을 찾게 되는 것 같아요.
앨범을 제작하는 마음으로 만든 하나의 음악입니다. 즐거움이나 공감을 살 수 있길 바라며, 잘 부탁드립니다.
